About the initiative

Skills that open pathways to opportunity.

Indian Heritager Foundation believes that sustainable development begins when people have the knowledge, skills, confidence and opportunities to create a secure livelihood. Our Skill Development and Livelihood initiatives focus on enabling women and communities to develop practical, market-relevant skills and transform those skills into meaningful economic opportunities.

Through our Common Facility Centre (CFC) approach, we provide a supportive environment where women can receive hands-on training, access appropriate production facilities, understand quality standards, develop products and receive guidance on taking their products to the market. The objective is not limited to training alone; it is to help participants move from learning to production, and from production to livelihood opportunities.

Our programmes give special attention to women who have limited access to formal employment or entrepreneurial opportunities. By building their skills and connecting them with production and market ecosystems, we aim to strengthen their ability to participate in income-generating activities while also increasing their confidence and decision-making capacity within their families and communities.

Shared platform

Common Facility Centre

The CFC provides a shared platform for training, product development, production support, quality control, packaging and market linkage. Women can learn together, gain practical production experience and understand the complete journey of a product—from selecting appropriate raw materials and following production processes to maintaining quality, packaging the finished product and preparing it for customers.

Enterprise development

Three Practical Enterprise Areas

Our skill development activities currently focus on three practical enterprise areas.

Eco-Friendly Home Products

The first is Eco-Friendly Home Products, where women can develop skills in products such as candles, soaps, incense and other environmentally conscious home-use products. These products have applications in everyday consumption, gifting and institutional requirements, creating opportunities to develop small-scale production activities.

  • Sustainable products
  • Everyday consumption
  • Gifting
  • Institutional requirements

Millet-Based Dry Foods

The second area is Millet-Based Dry Foods. Participants learn about millet-based products, hygienic preparation, processing, standardisation, packaging and basic quality practices. The programme seeks to connect traditional food knowledge with contemporary consumer requirements and suitable market opportunities.

  • Traditional food knowledge
  • Modern consumer requirements
  • Food processing
  • Packaging
  • Market opportunities

Fabric & Craft Products

The third area is Fabric & Craft Products, which focuses on practical skills for producing bags, eco-friendly kits and other fabric-based products. These products can be developed for local markets, exhibitions, institutional requirements and corporate gifting, while also creating opportunities for women with existing tailoring, stitching or craft interests to strengthen their skills.

  • Tailoring, stitching and craft skills
  • Local markets and exhibitions
  • Institutional requirements
  • Corporate gifting
From learning to earning

From Skill Development to Livelihood

Training is supported by practical exposure and production-oriented learning. Participants are encouraged to understand not only how to make a product, but also how to maintain consistency, calculate basic production requirements, follow quality standards and prepare products for real customers. This helps bridge the gap between conventional skill training and actual livelihood opportunities.

    Skill Development

  2. 2

    Practical Exposure

  3. 3

    Pilot Production

  4. 4

    Product Validation

  5. 5

    Production Readiness

  6. 6

    Market Access

  7. 7

    Livelihood Opportunity

Our approach is designed to create a gradual pathway. Women first receive training and practical exposure, followed by pilot production and product validation. As their skills and production readiness improve, they can participate more consistently in CFC-linked production and explore opportunities to develop their own enterprise activities.

Market linkage

From Skills to Markets

Market linkage is an important part of our approach. Wherever feasible, Indian Heritager Foundation works towards connecting trained women and their products with local retailers, exhibitions, institutional buyers, corporate gifting opportunities and suitable online or other market channels. Buyer feedback and market response can also help participants improve product quality, design, packaging and production planning.

  • Local retailers
  • Exhibitions
  • Institutional buyers
  • Corporate gifting opportunities
  • Online market channels
  • Other suitable market opportunities
Sustainable opportunities

Building a Women-Led Livelihood Ecosystem

Through this model, Indian Heritager Foundation aims to create more than short-term training opportunities. We seek to build a women-led livelihood ecosystem in which skills, shared infrastructure, production support, quality improvement and market access work together to create sustainable opportunities.

A vision for sustainable livelihoods

We believe that when women have access to the right skills, infrastructure, guidance and markets, they can become active contributors to the economic development of their families and communities. Indian Heritager Foundation is committed to creating these pathways through practical skill development, responsible enterprise support and market-oriented livelihood programmes.

Our vision is simple: equip women with skills, provide access to opportunities, and help transform those skills into sustainable livelihoods.

Join us in creating practical pathways from skills to sustainable livelihoods for women and communities.
